OWEN SOUND, ONTARIO ART BANNER PROJECT

Carol-Ann and Noel are pleased that both of us have had one of our submitted paintings chosen for the Owen Sound Art Banner Project.

OWEN SOUND ART BANNER PROJECT

The Owen Sound Art Banner Project Committee is a group of local volunteers interested in building broad community support and participation in displaying the work of local artists in the form of street banners. In addition to adding artistic value to the downtown street scape, this project has great potential to increase tourist interest and civic pride in the downtown area.

The images displayed on the banners will be selected by a committee of local artists and will be fully self-funded by art patrons, who will then receive the banners at the end of their public display period. This process keeps interest high and creates an annual stream of fresh images.

The City of Owen Sound has approved this concept on a trial basis, with the initial launch scheduled for the harbour front area in late summer 2009. Can you just visualize 40 banners along the waterfront all images of local artists?

What a wonderful way to promote Owen Sound. If successful, this initiative may be rolled out to the downtown area in 2010.

Support this wonderful concept for only $100.00 by sponsoring one banner of a local artist.

For more information contact the Owen Sound Art Banner project committee at bannerproject@me.com

Opening reception is scheduled August 30, 2009 at the Farmers Market (located behind City Hall on 1st Avenue East), Owen Sound 1:00 p.m. to 3 p.m.

7th ANNUAL FEAST FOR THE EYES - SOUTHAMPTON, ONTARIO

Noel was happy to receive an award for his painting "Chicken Coupe" at the Southampton Art Gallery Juried Art Exhibition in April. Incidentally, his painting sold the following day.

The Judges' comments:

"This painting combines the charm of the familiar with the exotic setting of an era and a way of life which we are now longing to return to."
