Carol-Ann's Italy Paintings

From our visit to Rome last October (http://www.artistsinrome.blogspot.com/), I tried to capture the romance and lasting beauty of the Italian landscape. These paintings are the first in a series I completed for our opening of "ARTISTS IN ROME". My paint brush will be busy for a very long time documenting on canvas our adventures in the eternal city of Rome and romantic Florence and Tuscany.

The Roman Forum

Teatro di Marcello (Theater of Marcellus)

With a 15,000-spectator capacity, this 13-a.c. theater was the main ancient Roman venue for plays, concerts and the occasional public execution. In the 1300's, the Savelli family built a fortress on top of the ponderous ruins, which they then converted into a palace during the Renaissance (15th-16th c.). Above the ancient travertine arches, the apartments are still inhabited by modern princes and contessas.
